San Clemente brings deep purple color to a flower finished with finely fringed edges. It is a simple way to add a darker note among spring pastels while keeping plenty of texture.

• Type: Fringed
• Bloom season: Mid spring

Planting and care

Plant in fall in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Set bulbs pointed end up, about two to three times their height deep, with at least twice their width between bulbs. Store bulbs in a cool, dry place until planting. Outdoor bloom timing varies with climate and weather.

For cutting, harvest when the bud shows color but has not fully opened.
