I was 9 months pregnant with Mary, working an old office job, when I got the text from Albert. He was at a property showing and said "this is it." Without ever seeing it, I said "go for it," knowing that if he thought we could make something of it, it was a go.
With a plan and offer in place, the seller accepted and we purchased our future farm in March of 2019.
There was not a field in sight. It was home to broken trees, decaying plant material, bullying vines and an unlivable dwelling. Despite being a farm in years past, the good souls who had tended to it had long passed leaving it left untouched for decades.
We loaded up our bags, tools, equipment and baby Mary to get to work. We spent a sleepless year cleaning up the land before growing anything — making 2020 our first growing season.
We love bringing joy to our community through flowers.
MEET THE FAMILY
FOUNDER, GROWER
Rebecca Sadlowski (Becky) is a fourth generation Pioneer Valley native, Becky has a passion for connecting to the land and sharing it with the community.
“I always knew I wanted to be a mother. How that role came to be was never pre-determined. Whether it was tending to a flock of hens, caring for fields of plants, adopting children or having my own, in some way, shape or form, I would be caring, nurturing or giving birth to something.
The growing, building and creating within that “space” has been Rooted.
The farm’s three flower logo represents the parent-children relationship between myself, Mary & Julia.
HEAD OF ROLLING STOCK
Albert is the backbone in the restoration of the farm and endlessly supportive of all our endeavors.
He is relentless in his efforts to make systems on the farm more efficient and reliable, for better, more sustainable flowers. From babies to equipment, he oversees all operations and can literally fix anything.
You can find Albert out on the tractor with one of his loyal co-pilots Mary or Julia.
SUPERVISOR, CHICKEN WRANGLER
Mary, age 2, is an active part of all that happens on the farm each and every day. She is up for early morning waterings, has an eye for colorful arrangements, and tags along on deliveries. She can be spotted driving her John Deere power wheels, or chasing after her best friend, our dog Lyle. She’s learning all about the hard work and rewards of agriculture and adores her little sister.
SUPPORT LEAD
Julia reminds us to slow down and be present. Her snuggles keep us grounded and needs on our toes. She is the rock to our morale up and lends an ear to all.
Learning all the ropes early, Julia was harvesting dahlias within 72 hours of birth.
LOYAL COMPANION
Lyle is never far without his girls, and when he not being a best friend, find him scouting the fields for fun things to find.
Too lovable for his own good, watch out — he may try to steal a kiss!
