Akebono opens in sunny yellow, with extra layers of petals touched by green and fine red markings. Its full, softly rounded flowers have plenty to look at, whether you plant a little group in the garden or bring a few stems indoors.

Planting and care

Plant in fall in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Set bulbs pointed end up, about two to three times their height deep, with at least twice their width between bulbs. Store bulbs in a cool, dry place until planting. Outdoor bloom timing varies with climate and weather.

For cutting, harvest when the bud shows color but has not fully opened.
